Exam programme
Basic Electrical Engineering: distribution system
What distribution is, purpose of distribution systems; direct voltage, alternating voltage, three-phase, 1- and 3-phase network, phase, neutral and earth; structure of a distribution system in a residential or commercial installation; structure of an industrial distribution board; protective devices, fuse, miniature circuit breaker and residual current device; final circuits, socket outlets.
Basic Electrical Engineering: switching technology
What control and distribution mean in electrical engineering; simple explanation of voltage, current and resistance and their relationship; function of switching components: relay, timer relay, switches, emergency stop, push buttons, NO/NC; function of protections: thermal relay, fuses, circuit breakers, motor protection switch; classification and function of control cabinets.
First-line inspection of Electrical Installations
Tripped protective devices: fuse, circuit breaker, residual current device; deficiencies in cables: insulation, routing and securing; overheating (thermal damage), discolouration of switching devices, bad connections; contamination of critical components: fan grilles, heat sinks, fans; practical assignment in your own workplace.
First-line faults in distribution systems
Simple diagrams and drawings: one-way and two-way switching; measuring voltage with the correct measuring equipment; locating faults using diagrams and measuring equipment.
First-line faults in switching technology
Simple diagrams and drawings: latch and interlock circuits; measuring voltage with the correct equipment; locating faults using diagrams and measuring equipment.
Basic Electrical Drive Technology
General structure of an electrical drive: motor, transmission, sensors, controller, signal connections; various practical examples of drive applications: packaging machine, paper mill, PCB assembly; drive motors: three-phase, DC motors, servo motors, stepper motors; recognising and explaining operation of linear drives: spindle, actuator, cylinder; basic operation and application of: on/off switching, soft starter, frequency inverter, servo controller; principle of various types of sensors: encoders, speed measurement.
Inspection and first-line maintenance of Electrical Drive Systems
Inspection points of a drive system and its components; performing visual and sensory observations during an inspection round; inspection points: cooling, contamination, temperature (overload), sound, mounting and vibration, electrical connection; practical assignment on your own worksite.
First-line faults in Electrical Drive Systems
Simple diagrams and drawings: direct-on-line starter, difference between power and control circuit diagrams; measuring voltage and current with the correct instruments; locating faults using diagrams and measurement equipment.
